Does the weather change when there is a ring around the Moon?

Folklore has it that a ring around the Moon signifies bad weather. There is, in fact, a grain of truth in this, since the bright ring around the Moon is caused by millions of tiny ice crystals associated with high-level cloud. These disperse the moonlight on its way to an observer on Earth, and provide a clear indication of moisture in the air. The halo shows that the air, which is oversaturated with moisture, has already sunk to lower levels and will probably bring a warm front and precipitation.
